Searcheeze is a great web tool for students and teachers. It is basically a content curation tool. As you probably know content curation or digital curation is ' the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital contents.' Knowing how to effectively curate content online is an imperative skill that students need to have. There are actually several free web tools that can help them do that and Searcheeze is among my favourites.



Searcheeze is very easy to use and does not require any software installation. Just head over to its main page and register for your free account. Once logged in you can then use the bookmarklet they provide. Just drag and drop it into your bar and whenever you find an interesting web page, be it image, video or text, you can instantly bookmark it. Searcheeze also provides the ability for users to organize their curated content in newspaper like styles.



Searcheeze is not like many of the other bookmarking tools online in that it has some awesome features rarely found in a free service. For instance, it allows users to bookmark only specific parts of a web page instead of the whole page. They can highlight the text they want and drag it to their bookmarklet. The same goes on to pictures and videos. Users can create collections and name them so that each time they want to bookmark something they can send it to a specific collection. When you go to Searcheeze account you can then arrange your content and publish it for others to see. Users can also work together in curating their digital content via sharing and adding.

Quali sono dunque le migliori piattaforme di content curation? Ecco la nostra top 5.

• Scoop.it: probabilmente è anche la più celebre. L’estetica è quella del newspaper, lo scopo dichiarato è “give persistence to your social media presence”. Nasce su web ma è consultabile anche da mobile.
• Searcheeze: prodotto assolutamente made in Italy da Stefano Passatordi. Anche in questo caso lo stile di “impaginazione” è quello di un giornale, ma la piattaforma aiuta ad acquisire lettori e, dunque, contribuisce ad accrescere l’influenza del curator sul web.
• Pealtrees: simile più ad un collettore di link, immagini ed in generale “oggetti” di nostro interesse, Pearltrees conta attualmente circa 200.000 utilizzatori.
• Storify: mira soprattutto ad aggregare contenuti partendo dalla loro ricerca sui Social.
• Percolate: specificatamene dedicata ai brand, al fine di raccogliere quanto pubblicato sui vari canali Social, per generare un unico luogo di aggregazione di notizie ed engagement.

As I said in my post about Pinterest, the popular platform – that looks more like a pics repository – is not the only web content-curation service.

Searcheeze is a brilliant example of this – and it’s also Made in Italy. The startup leaded by Stefano Passatori has now offices in Italy and USA, and it’s rapidly growing after getting venture capital investment. Stefano is known in the Italian start up scene for his blog You Startup.

We decided to interview him to see how Searcheeze is going.

– Hi Stefano! Searcheeze is one of the newest services for content curation: which are its main features?

Hi guys! Searcheeze is relatively young and still in development – the public version is in beta phase. The main features are the possibility to find and share a single content from inside a web page, and the collaboration in curating contents. In order to understand better the service, we need to understand what content curation really is: the aim is to screen the web and organize the best contents divided in categories, but on the other hand thesimple bookmarking is not enough. Most of the times, when we share a link to our friends we actually want them to see just one paragraph or one image; our bookmarklet allows users to share just “that” part of the web page, getting rid of all the “background noise”. Searcheeze also offers the possibility to collaborate between users: in fact content curation can also be done by groups – both private and public. This can be very useful for a business projects, but also for friends that just want a digital space where to put all the stuff  they are all interested in.

– Ciao Stefano! Searcheeze rappresenta una delle ultime novità nell’ambito della content curation: quali sono le sue caratteristiche principali?

Ciao ragazzi! Searcheeze è un servizio giovane e ancora in fase di sviluppo (siamo in beta pubblica), attualmente le principali caratteristiche sono sicuramente: la capacità di poter draggare singoli contenuti dalle pagine web, attraverso la nostra bookmarklet e con una granularità scelta dall’utente, e la collaborazione che è presente nell’intero processo di curation. Per poter capire a fondo quanto siano importanti le suddette caratteristiche bisogna aver ben presente l’intero processo di content curation. Se è vero che lo scopo è quello di filtrare il web, organizzando i migliori contenuti per argomenti, è anche vero chespesso il semplice bookmarking di una pagina non basta per curare in maniera efficace un argomento. Quante volte ci capita di condividere un link con un amico via email o in chat suggerendogli di vedere solo un video? Oppure solo una immagine? Oppure solo il paragrafo centrale? In queste circostanze, la nostra bookmarklet offre al curatore la possibilità di catturare davvero solo il contenuto di cui ha bisogno, eliminando tutto il “rumore” circostante, ma mantenendo, sempre e comunque, un riferimento alla pagina di origine. L’attività di content curation può essere eseguita sia dal singolo, ma anche da più persone. Quante volte ci capita di condividere per lavoro, per interessi comuni o per divertimento dei contenuti web con colleghi, amici e parenti? In particolare negli ambienti lavorativi, dove gruppi di colleghi necessitano di condividere informazione presente sul web? In tutti questi casi, la capacità collaborativa di Searcheeze offre una grossa opportunità per tutti i gruppi, privati e pubblici, di lavoro e non, cheare, organizzare ed, eventualmente, ripubblicare contenuti di interesse comune.

– La dimensione collaborativa nella creazione dei papers è particolarmente importante in Searcheeze: come evolverà questa feature? Che altri sviluppi sono previsti per la piattaforma?

Le migliorie che abbiamo stabilito sono davvero innumerevoli, proverò a riassumere quelle più importanti. Sicuramente ci sarà un importante lavoro sia sulla UX che sulla UI, la nuova interfaccia sarà messa online nei prossimi mesi. La collaborazione sarà potenziata e verrà introdotto un sistema avanzato di gestione dei ruoli e dei permessi. Per la fase di selezione e filtraggio, stiamo lavorando su un motore automatico di suggerimento di contenuti (simile a quello di Scoop.it) e introdurremo la possibilità di fare content curation degli stream di Twitter (già disponibile, basta andare su twitter.com e draggare i tweet) e di Facebook. Circa l’organizzazione dei contenuti, sarà possibile spostarli e copiarli tra i vari topic, sarà anche migliorata la ricerca e sarà possibile creare dei collegamenti tra i diversi contenuti. Anche il magazine pubblico sarà migliorato, verrà introdotta la possibilità di personalizzare la grafica di ogni singolo magazine, di esportare ed embeddare l’intero stream di contenuti o singoli elementi. Stiamo anche studiando un meccanismo virale per permettere ai curators meritevoli di potersi diffondere e farsi conoscere nel minor tempo possibile. Aggiungeremo anche un sistema di statistiche private per permettere ai curators di capire l’andamento del loro lavoro e la risposta dei lettori. Ovviamente, saranno sviluppate le applicazioni per iOS e Android. Sarà introdotta una importante novità che, siamo certi, farà di Searcheeze una killer application, ma, per adesso… non posso dire altro!

The idea of Searcheeze is an evolution of another of Stefano's projects, Ibrii, which was born two years ago and that allowed users to collect content from the web. It's a platform that allows you to filter and select the best content about a particular topic, give it context and add comments, notes, or thoughts. This mechanism allows the curator tobecome an influencer for the topic he's treating
An important element of the technology behind it is the one that allows, by using the tab, to select contents with a great level of granularity: it's not a bookmarking service, it gives the possibility of selecting the single content on a page, regardless of whether it's text, or video or images.It becomes extremely easy to decompose a page and reorganize the topic with content from other sources.

La quattordicesima intervista di StartupID è con Stefano Passatordi, fondatore della startup Searcheeze, una applicazione web per la content curation che ha l’obiettivo di sfruttare appunto la content curation per fare personal e company branding.
L’idea di Searcheeze è un’evoluzione di un altro progetto di Stefano, nato due anni fa, che permetteva di collezionare contenuti dal web. E’ una piattaforma che dà l’opportunità agli utenti di filtrare e selezionare i contenuti migliori che riguardano un determinato topic, contestualizzarli e aggiungere commenti, note o pensieri. Questo meccanismo permette al curator di affermarsi nel tempo come punto di riferimento per l’argomento che sta trattando.

La cura dei contenuti on line è il trend social del 2012 e alla DLD ne abbiamo avuto confermata da parte dei fondatori di Huffington Post, Twitter e Tumblr. Chi fa informazione non può più ignorarla
La scorsa settimana ho avuto l'opportunità di seguire la DLD conference di Monaco, dove era presente anche Arianna Huffington, fondatrice dell'Huffington Post (che ti consiglio di leggere nella fantastica versione News Glide). Ha spiegato l'Arianna: Il web è pieno di news e opinioni, ma nessuna illuminazione! E questo è quello che cerchiamo di fare all'Huffington Post. A partire dai commenti, che moderiamo per eliminare tutto quello spam che Internet si porta dietro. Cura dei contenuti, in poche parole.
L'altro giorno ho parlato di PandoDaily, il nuovo TechCrunch nato in America. Nel post di presentazione di questo c'è un'ottima spiegazione di come la cura dei contenuti debba oggi essere una preoccupazione di chi fa informazione.

Il re-blogging, ha spiegato David, è all'origine della content curation. Su Tumblr ci sono blogger che si limitano a raccogliere notizie, foto, video, citazioni interessanti su un argomento. Sono i responsabili della crescita del sito. Oggi la novità sono servizi come Searcheeze e Scoop.it, ma a ben vedere la content curation è ancora saldamente in mano a Tumbrl e Twitter. Cui si si associa oraa anche Pinterest (guida e inviti nei post precedenti).

Het is ook mogelijk om met meerdere personen info te verzamelen in een gezamenlijke collection. Daardoor is Searcheeze zowel interessant voor professioneel als particulier gebruik.

Klinkt bekend? Dat kan: Searcheeze is de opvolger van het vroeger besproken Ibrii. Deze webtool is een goed alternatief voor het populaire Evernote (http://www.evernote.com) wanneer u belang hecht aan het ‘sociale' aspect.

Informatie opsnorren is een fluitje van een cent in dit internettijdperk. Het beheren van al die zoekresultaten blijkt echter een stuk complexer. De gratis webdienst Searcheezekan je hier een handje bij helpen, en gaat zelfs nog een paar stappen verder.

Searcheeze maakt het niet alleen mogelijk om je zoekresultaten gecentraliseerd op te slaan (archiveren), maar ook om die informatie eenvoudig uit te wisselen met anderen (sharen). Twee handelingen waarvoor we in de praktijk nog té vaak op de printknop drukken, zo vinden de bedenkers van de dienst. Het alternatief van Searcheeze is een bookmarklet – een kleine button in de browserbalk – waarmee je tijdens je surftochten een speciaal venster oproept. Als je informatie tegenkomt die je wil bewaren, versleep je die gewoon naar het Searcheeze-venster. Dat werkt met tekst, maar evengoed met foto’s, videofragmenten en alle andere onderdelen op een webpagina die roze oplichten wanneer je er met de muispijl overheen beweegt. Ben je met meerdere projecten tegelijk bezig, dan kun je in het venster voor elk onderwerp een afzonderlijk topic creëren.

Crei il tuo topic tematico in un attimo, poi, appena trovi il contenuto che ti interessa, con un semplice drag ‘n drop sulla web application installata nel browser, pubblichi subito il testo, il video o la foto che ti interessa e questi appaiano come per magia sulla homepage del topic. Il video sulla loro homepage spiega benissimo come funziona e come può esser utilizzato. Per promuoverlo sulla rete, i creatori, hanno creato un contest tematico con in palio dei bei premi, ho partecipato ottenendo un bel risultato ma soprattutto ho potuto testare la bontà del servizio in termini di risultati sia in visite che in apprezzamenti da parte dei lettori. Spero di vedere in futuro una app per smartphone, un sistema di ricerca dei contenuti nei topic e se è possibile già che ci siamo anche l’inserimento di tag personalizzati per ogni contenuto pubblicato.

Estamos falando de Searcheeze, nova plataforma para curadoria de conteúdos digitais. A ferramenta tem a proposta de oferecer ao usuário colecionar, organizar e contextualizar conteúdos na web. De modo mais simples, pretende ser útil à realização de pesquisas colaborativas e agregar conteúdos online. 

Dessa forma, grupos de trabalho podem, por exemplo, compartilhar textos, fotos, vídeos, arquivos de áudio, rascunhos sobre um projeto, favorecendo o intercâmbio mais imediato e rápido sobre a informação buscada. Ainda, no caso de usuários comuns, é possível criar sua própria revista, organizando o conteúdo de seu interesse encontrado na rede, podendo tornar suas escolhas públicas ou compartilhar com quem quiser, seja em seu blog ou em seu perfil na rede social.

 

O mais interessante de Searcheeze é a ideia de pesquisa colaborativa. O fato de que todo o conteúdo publicado esteja na nuvem permite ao usuário compartilhar a informação com quem desejar. Além disso, as pessoas que estejam colaborando na pesquisa podem também contribuir com novos conteúdos. Por enquanto Searcheeze está em inglês. Chega, em abril, ao mercado italiano. E estão previstas, ainda para 2012, as versões em português e em espanhol.

El procedimiento es sencillo: nos identificamos y añadimos searcheeze a la barra de favoritos de nuestro navegador (habrá que mostrarla y mantenerla a la vista mientras trabajamos).

Es preciso partir de un tópico al que iremos añadiendo objetos (vídeos, imágenes, flash...) y textos

Una vez que estemos en una página de la que queremos obtener, por ejemplo, una imagen, abrimos searcheeze para obtener una zona de trabajo.

Al posicionarnos sobre el objeto de deseo se remarca y lo arrastramos al cajón del servicio. A medida que visitamos páginas, abrimos y añadimos nuevos objetos hasta que conseguimos tenerlo todo guardado.

Ahora queda la fase de recomposición de lo encontrado, añadir textos, compartirlo...

Lo mejor es que permite la colaboración en la búsqueda y organización de la información.

Para febrero he peparado una actividad con mis alumnos para conocer el mudéjar de la comarca. Incluirán lo que encuentren en un mismo tópico de searcheeze. Solo he puesto el inicio, ellos lo irán completando.

El resultado puede ser público o privado,con un aspecto bastante profesional.

Colecciones SOCIALES de recursos con Searcheeze

Se acerca peligrosamente la navidad y en mi agenda empiezan a apilarse temas que tengo que solventar, unos personalmente y otros con la ayuda de amigos y familiares.

Suerte que ha aparecido Searcheeze (para muchos una alternativa a Evernote). Ahora busco y elijo de la web la información que me interesa y la guardo en colecciones temáticas, simplemente seleccionando y arrastrando.

Pero lo realmente interesante e innovador de esta herramienta es su carácter SOCIAL. Es decir, permite configurar un equipo de “content curators” (traducido sería algo así como comisario o encargado de contenidos). Así para mi temática “Recetas Fashion Navideñas” he creado un grupo de investigadores culinarios conformado por mi abuela, mi madre, mi prima Mari y yo misma. Les he invitado (a través del email y de Facebook) a este tópico en Searcheeze y ahora cada dos por tres van añadiendo: vídeos, presentaciones y contenidos web que nos pueden ayudar a mejorar el ágape de este año. Algunas veces, añaden algún comentario a un contenido concreto.

Además, como todas somos muy altruistas la colección de recursos la hemos hecho pública (aunque al principio durante unos cuantos días la mantuvimos privada).

Esta colección la he conectado con mi cuenta de Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr y Wordpress de manera que se “auto postea” con tan solo un clic.

Découvert chez Benoit Descary, Searcheeze est un nouvel outil de curation qui permet de collecter du texte, des images et des vidéos à partir de n'importe quel site Web, de les partager sur les réseaux sociaux ou les blogs et de les publier sous forme de magazine.



Il fonctionne donc un peu comme Evernote, mais il se distingue de ce dernier par la possibilité de collaborer avec d'autres utilisateurs pour alimenter et compléter votre curation. Vos topics peuvent être publics ou privés.
